February 2, 2010

Okay, I totally blame this on Chris! He said that concentrating on happy things in order to update his blog made him happier each day, so I thought I would finally bit the bullet and start another blog! I have a hard enough time updating the blogs I have to begin with, but I am excited to see if this actually does make a difference!

Happy Item Number 1: I finished a book! I read a big little life: A Memoir of a Joyful Dog by Dean Koontz. I have a thing for memoirs about dogs. Books about dogs period!

Happy Item Number 2: Reading this book gave me a chance to remember my dogs. I am a dog person and I really wish I was in a place in my life where I could have another dog, but it was fun to remember Sandy and Shelby as I read through this book. Especially where they were both golden retrievers and this was a book about a golden retriever.

Happy Item Number 3: I haven't had to go outside yet today! I will have to eventually, but considering that with the windchill we have been hovering between the minus 20 and minus 30 range Celsius, I am very happy to be hibernating inside.

Happy Item Number 4: I am about to go make scrambled eggs with ham, red pepper, onions, and mushrooms because the charming comedian is sleeping because he has to work tonight, so this meal is really like breakfast for him. I really like my scrambled eggs, though!

Today is only about half over, so there will hopefully be more as the day progresses.

First, though, I think I am going to go email people and tell them that this blog exists... Later tonight I will fix up the formatting. I just chose one of the free templates offered, but it really should be purple!

On another note, what does it say about the world that Chris could call his blog 'A Year of Good Stuff' and it not be taken, but I wanted to call mine 'Purple Monkey Dishwater' and it was taken...

  3. Chris: Thanks!

Marg: lol, nope, it means nothing. I wish I could remember where it came from. I would say it dates back a few years... Maybe from a movie or a book? I almost think my sister is the one that used to say it. I must ask her! I just wanted something different...

Pat: I am sure you can come up with things. Your pictures, for example. They are always showing good stuff. :) I am glad you will be stopping by, though!

  4. That is hilarious about the blog name not being available! Thanks for inviting me to join you here in the happy blogdom. Sounds like it's really helping people focus on being happy, and I'm glad to help cheer people up in that way!

  5. That's hilarious. I wanted to call mine ribbon of dreams in the blog URL but it was taken, too, by a blog someone never posted on. Grr.

    Thanks for inviting me here!

  7. Aarti: I am glad you are going to visit! I am hoping that thinking about happy things will aid in concentrating on the good parts of life.

Amanda: Yeah, I decided to just pick a name that I could have the same URL and Blog Name. Thanks for visiting!

Heather: It was just me being funny. I am not entirely sure where the name came from. :)

  8. Purple Monkey Dishwater is a great name! But I think I've heard that before somewhere. Will try to remember where.

I love omlettes! I usually make mine with ham, cheese, onions, and cilantro.

  9. Vasilly: I wish I could remember where I heard it before. I tried a couple years ago, but no one I asked seemed to remember it but me... I add the cheese afterwards so you can taste it better.

  10. You know, I think I like Happy Purple Monkeys even more than Purple Monkey Dishwater...though that is a tough call.

Thanks for the invite, Kelly...I'm going to love reading your happy things! :D

  11. Purple Monkeys? The idea makes me happy. This is a fabulous idea for a blog, Kelly. Can't wait to see what you write. :-D

  12. Debi: Well, the suggestions I kept getting were a bit lousy, so I got to thinking it was a happy place and tried to just add the word happy to the front. Then, I didn't like Happy Purple Monkey Dishwater, so I dropped the Dishwater and a blog was born. lol

Melissa: I know, huh? So far every time I have visited my own blog I have smiled at the title. :)

  14. I like Happy Purple Monkeys better than dishwater, but that is so funny! Someday, I might have to follow along with those of you who have created happy blogs.

This was a happy book-in-the-mail day, for me. I'm not requesting many books, so it's a rare day when I get even one. Today, I got a swap book, Going After Cacciato by Tim O'Brien. And, then SIX books arrived in a box with pretty polka-dot tissue from Sterling Kids (!!!). I sat right down and read them all. After that, the UPS man dropped off a book called Benjamin Pratt and the Keepers of the School: We the Children by Andrew Clements. It looks like buckets of fun, too.

The Koontz book sounds so sweet. I heard him talking about it on a talk show and he seems like a really terrific guy.

  15. Great idea! And Purple Monkey Dishwater was taken? Huh?

  16. Wendy: That's something to be happy about!

Nancy: That's great that you had a bookish day! I only received one review copy. Then, I bought four books and they arrived today and I picked up four books from the library. It was nice to have a bookish day. I haven't had as many as I used to lately.

Carrie: I know, right? It is the last thing that I expected to be taken. lol
